Anne Killett Talks With East Norfolk 6th Form Students

Anne Killett, the Green Party candidate for the parliamentary elections on 12th December, joined other candidates at a well-attended hustings organised for students of East Norfolk Sixth Form College. It was unfortunate that the sitting Conservative MP, Brandon Lewis, appeared unable to attend and was represented by local councillor, Daniel Laycock. This is not the first hustings in Norfolk where the Tory candidate has not attended. It is disrespecting democracy if voters cannot put their questions to all candidates, especially the sitting MP!
We are in a Climate Emergency, Anne reminded everyone, and the constituency of Great Yarmouth is on the front line in the climate crisis that affects us all. The Norfolk coast is subject to sea-level rise, coastal erosion and more frequent tidal surges.
Great Yarmouth could become an even more important centre of the offshore wind generation industry creating employment in the local area. But this can only happen if there is investment in education, apprenticeships and local industry to benefit local people in the longer term. The Green Party would ensure local people and local firms benefit from these opportunities.
